Pfutsero, March 13 (MExN): The Zuketsa Students’ Union (ZSU) today expressed resentment over locking up Government High School, Zuketsa by landowners since March 8 and appealed to the contending parties to immediately open the school taking into account the students’ welfare.
The union President, Trokulo Khutso and General Secretary, Krokulo Tero in a press release stated that the incident has affected the smooth functioning of the school jeopardizing the academic career of the students.
Noting that the present crisis is a result of long standing issue relating to the appointment of Chowkidar at the school, the union requested the “contending landowners to amicably resolve the issue between them without dragging the school into their sphere.”
ZSU also made an appeal to the Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO) and administrative authority under Pfutsero sub-division to look into the matter immediately and address it stating the issue was referred to them earlier by an order from the Education department. The delay in their response, it alleged, has aggravated the matter.
Meanwhile, the students’ union reminded the Education department that a headmaster is yet to be placed at GHS Zuketsa after the retirement of the previous one since May 2016. “The school is also running without a language teacher (MIL) since its up-gradation in 1993 and science teacher since September, 2011 after being transfer on promotion,” it added. Hence, the union questioned the sincerity and seriousness of the department in imparting quality education and providing the basic rights of the students. It urged the department to fill the vacant posts “so that the welfare of the students is not taken for granted in future and the real benefit and true value of education is delivered to the students at the right time.”
