Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Jalukie of Peren district today emerged champion of the State Level GHSS Sepaktakraw Tournament 2017 here at Indira Gandhi Stadium.
Organized by Directorate of School Education, the tournament witnessed participation of all the districts in the state.
GHSS Jalukie defeated Riizhükhrie GHSS Kohima in the final match.
GHSS Phek and GHSS Zunheboto also made to semi finals.
Earlier gracing the inaugural function of the tournament as chief guest, Director School Education Wonthungo Tsopoe said that Sepaktakraw is an appropriate game for Naga people.
In this, he said the School Education Department in collaboration with Youth Resources & Sports Department is making all efforts to improve the standard of the game in the state.
Stating that learning and attaining education in classrooms is not enough, he said that the present world of competition also requires skills in various fields.
He said the Department has made Sepaktakraw a regular activity for all the GHSS in the state.
He urged that students to take keen interest so as to take the sporting activity as a profession.
Later, RMSA Mission director Limawabang Aier also graced the valedictory function as the guest of honour.
The function was chaired by All Nagaland Physical Education Teachers Association president Vitsolie Keyho while welcome address was delivered by Additional Director (SE) Pollem Tep. Vote of thanks was proposed by Deputy Director (PE) T. Lipok Jamir.
