Phek, June 15 (MExN): Phek District has observed World Blood Donor Day under the theme ‘give blood, give hope: together we save lives’ with Dr Temsulong Pongene, Sr Specialist (Psychiatrist) DH as the guest speaker at Dr Wethselo Memorial Hall, District Hospital, Phek. The programme was organised by District Hospital and DISHA Unit Phek sponsored by Nagaland State Blood Transfusion Council. The day is observed with the main purpose to honour the invaluable contributions of voluntary blood donors whose selfless acts save countless lives and strengthen public health systems, stated a press release received here.
Col Iqbal Singh Dhillon, 39th Assam Rifles in his short speech has talked about on the importance of donating blood which is a noble act and selfless act which helps save lives. He informed that in India every 2 seconds people are in need of blood. He urges the gatherings to donate blood and save lives.
Sekho Veswu, Asst Education & Statistical Secretary PTCSU in his speech has encouraged the participants that we should not make this program just an event but a movement. Donating blood gives someone’s life a second chance and enhances solidarity within communities.
The guest speaker Dr Temsulong highlighted that we need to donate blood as its saves lives, there is no substitutes for human blood, every 3 seconds someone needs bloods. He also clears up the myths that there is no such as side effects in donating blood but first time donors may psychologically feel dizzy but for few minutes. He also stressed on the points such as who can donate blood, how much blood taken while donating, how often we can donate etc. Informed the participants that from April 2024 – May 2025 altogether 142 donors have donated blood out of which 134 were male while 8 were female at DH Phek.
The program was attended by PTSCU, Ward Chairmen, Mothers Association Phek Town, Red Cross Society, Red Ribbon Club Phek Govt College, Phek Town Public Forum, Phek Town Chambers, Commerce & Industry, staff of DH & CMO office.
