
World Blood Donor Day observed in Mon
Mon, June 16 (MExN): The District AIDS Prevention & Control Unit (DAPCU), Voluntary Blood Donors’ Association, Mon (VBDAM), Mon ADP, World Vision India and District Hospital Mon jointly observed World Blood Donor Day under the theme ‘What can you do ?’ with a slogan “Give Blood. Give Now. Give Often.” at OST Chapel Hall, DH Mon on June 14.
Tongmeth, President, VBDAM briefed on the significance of the day where he mentioned that every year World Blood Donor Day is celebrated to thank the voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and raise awareness on the need for regular blood donations to ensure quality, safety and availability of blood and blood products for patients in need. The campaign focuses on the role of every single person to help others in times of emergency and the importance of donating blood regularly.
Dr. Yanang, MO i/c Blood Bank shared on the basics of blood donation. He explained the blood types, eligibility to donate blood and the need of safe blood and blood products. He further encouraged the youth, clubs, churches and other institutions to play their roles in the life saving charity work, informed a press release.
Dr. Wungyong in his short speech highlighted the facilities at District Hospital, and the need for more voluntary blood donors. While appreciating the selfless service of VBDA Mon, he encouraged the members to continue to mobilize others for more voluntary blood donors so as to ensure sufficient supply of blood in times of emergency.
Longyim Tzudir, District Programme Officer, DAPCU, Mon in the press release further informed that short motivational speeches were delivered by a donor Minshem and a recipient Maohnyu.
Mongnyei K, DIS, DAPCU chaired the programme, which began with invocation, scripture reading and prayer by Taipho, Fellowship Pastor, KBCM. The benediction was pronounced by T. Wati, APH, MTABC.
