Longleng, October 16 (MExN): Global Handwashing Day was observed at Good Shepherd School, Longleng on October 15.
Akala Jamir Sanitation & Hygiene Consultant, PHED Longleng spoke on cleanliness of hands, body and surrounding to do away way various types of infection and diseases. She stated that washing hands with soap is the best way to fight germs and control infection of diseases and urged the students to inculcate the habit and disseminate the importance to their family, friends and community. She also gave a demonstration on proper handwashing method.
The invocation was proposed by Nyiangla Teacher of Good Shepherd School while welcome address was pronounced by M Lithe Teacher Good Shepherd School. The program was chaired by Cheilong. Students also participated in the hand washing demonstrations.
Tuensang
The Global Handwashing Day was observed at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Tuensang organized by the District Water and Sanitation Mission, PHED, Tuensang Division.
Speaking on the occasion, JE PHED Tuensang Khaoshai Lam said that nutritional diet and hygiene go hand in hand. Handwashing with soap is important for safe food, prevention of diseases, and child growth. He said that the mortality rate of infant is 1.8 million due to diarrhea and 1.5 due to Pneumonia and categorically stated that hand washing with soap can save millions of life in developing countries.
The JE also appealed to the students to be agents of change and to spread awareness in community health and hygiene.
The IEC Consultant DWSM, PHED Tuensang Division, Ashale Seb, demonstrated the seven stepss of proper handwashing with soap. She lamented that many people do not practice the habit of proper handwashing which leads to diseases like diarrhea and intestinal infections. She encouraged the students to bring behavioral change and inculcate the habit every day, by keeping our hands clean can prevent us from sickness and spreading of germs. She encouraged the students to keep their toilet neat and clean and wash their hands with soap after toilet and before meal.
A brief note on health and hygiene was delivered by PGT GHSS Thangjam, Anban Konyak, while JE, PHED Tuensang Shede Swuro chaired the program and vote of thanks was proposed by JE, PHED Tuensang S Akanjongshi Chang.
The program was attended by students and teachers of Govt. Higher Secondary School Thangjam Tuensang.
