WOKHA, MARCH 31 (DIPR): Professor Dr. B.R. Trivedi visited Wokha on 30th March where a meeting was held at the residence of Reverend Dr. Notsuo Ngullie to discuss the setting up of a Global University at Wokha. EAC Yanvuthung attended the meeting representing the district administration.
Later, an interview with the visiting Professor was held in connection with opening up the Global University at Wokha town. Replying to queries, Prof Trivedi said that the main purpose of opening the University is to provide quality education and to facilitate the students in many ways because the courses that are to be offered are all job-oriented.
He also said that instead of leaving for other states for further studies, students of Nagaland can save lakhs of rupees without going to Delhi or Pune. He also said that nagas will benefit in many ways because lecturers and staff will be appointed from the local area. Application of technicians will be made from other states though. But they will go back after providing various vocational and technical courses, it was added.
When asked regarding the construction works, he said that the Assembly has already passed the Act and the Governor is expected to give his consent to the Act and after the Act is published in the Nagaland Gazette the work will start. He also said that they are planning to work out a prospectus by the 1st week of June and classes will start to function most probably by July 2006.
He disclosed that since the building construction work will take 2-3 years, they would seek permission from the higher authority to use the ITI Complex, Government Higher Secondary School and Government Hospital at Wokha for the time being.
Replying to a query on whether the university will be able to collaborate with the existing colleges in Nagaland, he said that it can be affiliated on the cases of merit and besides receiving its own courses it can be affiliated but that vocational and technical courses will not be affiliated. About the role of the Government of Nagaland in the establishment and development of the university, he said that the Government has only to enact the Act in the Legislative Assembly and give support from time to time without financial assistance. Lastly, seeking cooperation from the District Administration, he said that without their support and help the project will face hurdles in many ways.
