Kohima, October 12 (MExN): GMS Botsa was declared as “Green School” on October 10 with the initiative of Kohima Forest Division under the division’s Green Initiative Programme which mainly focuses on schools and their commitment towards green activities.

In a press release by Akamla IA Kohima, the Green Initiative Programme has two components namely: Green Future Nursery and Plastic Free School programme that aims to create awareness on raising plantation and reduce plastic pollution respectively. GMS Botsa already has a Green Future Nursery under this programme and with the school being declared as Plastic free on October 10, the school is now the first Green School in Nagaland.

Rongsenlemla Imchen, IFS DFO Kohima acknowledged the school authority and the students for their active participation towards the initiative. She also highlighted on the importance of the role of students in fighting plastic pollution and reminded that plastic free does not necessarily mean zero use of plastic but reducing plastic footprint with regard to ‘single use plastic’ items.

Ranger, Sanchu spoke about plastic pollution on environment and the responsibilities of the students for a plastic free lifestyle. The students and the faculties made plastic free commitments by reading out the pledge which was led by Ranger, Pezaneinuo.
