GMS Lhomithi is Inner Wheel Club’s 3rd Happy School

Dimapur, April 20 (MExN): Inner Wheel Club Dimapur inaugurated its 3rd ‘Happy School’ – Government Middle School Lhomithi – under the TEACH Program of Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM) on April 20.  

Club president, Jyotsna Singh highlighted the purpose of Happy School and informed the gathering about various activities undertaken by the club during 2017-18.  

CLCC Asha Sharma spoke on the concept of Happy School, said a press release. She informed that the club white washed the whole school, made hand wash station for students, repaired broken window panes, painted all the blackboards, doors and windows of the school, donated water tank and provided running water facilities to the toilets, repaired bathrooms. It also donated many others items for the school. The government schools, she stated, should also attract students by providing congenial learning environment.  

Rotary International Assistant Governor and Founder Chairman RS Panesar, who also spoke on the occasion, stressed on the need for clean and pleasant learning situation. Meanwhile, Rotary Club president Vijay Sharma spoke on the need for upgrading the learning environment.  

Head Teacher of GMS Lhomithi, Tovili K Achumi expressed gratefulness to the Club for adopting the school as ‘Happy School’ and also providing all the necessary amenities which the school was lacking.  

Among other speakers were Head Teacher of Zeliangrong GMS and representative from Kachari Gaon Primary School.

Chief guest of the day PDG Chandu Kumar Agarwal briefed the need of Happy School environment, according to the release. He talked on the need of upgrading schools for better educational facilities giving certain data. To lower girl student dropouts, he further said, the lavatorial facility plays an important role in the middle schools.  

In the end, School Management Committee (SMC) chairman Atoho L Yeptho briefed the history of the school. Though the school was established four decades back in the year 1974, it could not develop due to various factors, he admitted.
