Government Middle School (GMS) Lower Chandmari, Kohima, has celebrated its cultural day on October 1 under the theme “Preserve Culture, Embrace Traditions,” with students showcasing the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the Naga people.

Gracing the occasion as the special guest, Dr Keneilhoulie Medom, Managing Director of KOHIMAS Hospital and proprietor of Experience the Naga Kitchen, Chedema, emphasised the importance of preserving Naga cultural identity through traditional songs, dances and practices.

Encouraging the students to dream big and work hard, Dr Medom urged them to explore different avenues for livelihood without neglecting their studies.

Dr Medom also encouraged the students to make full use of the educational opportunities available to them.

K Asangla, councillor, Kohima Municipal Council, stressed the importance of cultural identity and urged the students not to forget their roots and the traditions handed down by their forefathers.

Hoshito, GB highlighted the school’s good enrolment and called for its upgradation.

He also stressed the need for an approach road and standard footsteps to improve access to the school compound.

Dr Achila, SMC Member, said culture helps people understand who they are and urged everyone to trace their ancestral roots and carry the Naga identity forward with pride.

Yanpo compered the programme while welcome address was delivered by Visa Nisa, Head Teacher. Vote of thanks was proposed by John Kath, Chairman, School Management Committee.
