GNF appeal for immediate release of abducted Chop village leaders

KOHIMA, DECEMBER 19 (MExN): The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has appealed the concerned Naga Political Group responsible for the abduction of two village leaders from Chop village under Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh to release them without further delay.

At a critical juncture for the Naga people like the one we are in, the GNF makes an urgent appeal to all our people to have compassion for one another, a press release issued by GNF media cell stated.

The release of the two Chop village leaders who are currently detained would be an exemplary act of compassion. It would be befitting the season of peace and mercy Naga Christians are commemorating at this time of the year, it went on to state.

The GNF stated that recent events at the Indo-Myanmar border have unfolded in a way that has put the fate of the two village leaders of Chop in Longding District of Arunachal Pradesh in a precarious place.

Their situation strikes at the very core of Naga people’s shared humanity and our peoplehood. In our view, this matter goes beyond political affiliations; it appeals to our basic human capacity for forethought and mercy toward one another for the sake of the longer implications on the Naga society as a whole, the GNF said.

While stating that decisive and positive leadership along these lines could help initiate a new path, away from the unending cycle of resentment and discord, onto a culture of compassionate dialogue leading to trust and unity, the GNF believed that compassionate leadership will resonate more profoundly with the deep aspirations of our people.
