Dimapur | October 4
Forty years have passed since the Nagaland Baptist Churches Council (NBCC) during a conference held at Pfütsero, Phek district made a covenant to send 10,000 missionaries to the world missions.
Under the leadership of Rev. Alemmeren, the promise to send 10,000 missionaries was passed as a resolution in 1977, at the NBCC Conference.
Making a significant move to join the vision and promise made in 1977, the Sinai Ministry today launched the ‘GO- A movement to pursue the promise of 10,000 missionaries’ here at IMC Hall, Dimapur.
Why 10,000 Missionaries?
During a meeting on August 8, 2018, Rev Alemmeren narrated that in the 60s and 70s, more than 5,000 Nagas had already sacrificed their lives for the Naga cause, “so I was convicted by God, why not double the number and send 10,000 volunteers for Lord's Ministry for World Missions?”
In reference to the original documents which says “to enlist 10,000 Volunteers for the World Missions” Rev. Alemmeren said, “In the resolution “volunteers” means those people who will voluntarily come forward to be a missionary, who are willing to surrender their life for God for the rest of their life. There is a cost and price to be paid even up to the extent of losing blood, so you need to voluntarily come to be enlisted among the 10,000, and not because your church/parents want you to go.”
Eventually, after the resolution was passed, all the different associations under NBCC resolved and signed the resolution. Rev. Alemmeren however acknowledged that “The promise is not fulfilled yet.”
Why GO movement?
“After all these years, we are yet to fulfill the promise,” stated Director of Sinai Ministry, Wabang Longchari. According to Wabang, 10,000 missionaries was just a figure of speech on some people’s opinion; for some, it was an emotional decision taken at a spur of a moment; and there are also people who say we have already fulfilled the promise of 10,000, where “Goers, Senders, Sponsors” are all included, but the covenant was specifically only for Goers, who would voluntarily commit their lives for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Talking about the conviction to fulfill the promise, he said, God spoke to him while attending a Mission Conference called ‘Burning Hearts’ in Ludenscheid, Germany on May 21, 2018, that the Nagas have an “Unfinished Covenant” with God to send 10,000 cross-cultural Missionaries into the world.”
“If it was just an emotional covenant that we Nagas had made in 1977, then I don’t think God would bother to speak to me on that day,” Wabang said.
“Now if you ask me what is our heart? Our heart is to tell our stories to the nations. Our vision is to pursue the promise of 10,000 Missionaries to be sent out from Nagaland into the world. It may take years, even our lifetime, but we are committed to the mandate given to us by God,” Wabang affirmed.
What is the mission?
“We do not say that Sinai Ministry will be able to fulfill the promise but we want to be a part, to support and carry the baton our parents were carrying since the 50s,” the Director stated.
“We just want to remind all the Naga political and spiritual leaders, all our fellow Naga citizens that we have unfinished business with God and without which, no matter how best we try, we will see very less transformation or no transformation in our land in all the spheres of the Naga society.”
As a declaration of the GO Movement, the Ministry is organising a four-day revival at IMC Hall, Dimapur starting from October 4 to 7.
