Chumukedima, November 9 (MExN): It was goals galore on Wednesday as a total of 41 goals were scored in the eight matches played in the preliminary league rounds of the ongoing 65th B.N. Mullik Memorial All India Police Football Championship 2016 at Police Complex, Chumukedima. Chandigarh Police in Group C were handed a humiliating 0-14 defeat by the Assam Rifles who were completely dominant in the game. Meghalaya Police and Odisha Police also had a field day. In Group H, Meghalaya Police blanked Uttar Pradesh Police 9-0 in another one sided match while Odisha Police outplayed Chhatisgarh Police 6-0 in Group H. In the other matches, Tamil Nadu Police defeated Lakshadweep Police 2-0 in Group A while Manipur Police prevailed over Andhra Pradesh Police with a similar scoreline in Group B. In Group D, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Madhya Pradesh Police scored 6 goals between them but it was the RPF who emerged victorious as they deservedly won 4-2. The day was made even more memorable thanks to a brilliant encounter between the Police teams of the two giant footballing states – West Bengal and Assam in Group G. The two teams were locked in a goalless draw till the dying ends of the match with neither able to find the net. However, the North Eastern team clinched a late winner much to the despair of their opponents.
