Kohima, April 16 (MExN): A civic reception in honour of Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav was organised by the Gorkha community of Kohima at the Multi-Utility Hall, GPPK Complex, Chandmari, on April 16.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor expressed gratitude for the warm reception and appreciated the hospitality and unity displayed by the organisers. He lauded the Gorkha community for its longstanding contributions to the nation and the state across sectors such as public service, defence, education, trade, agriculture and social development.
Yadav noted that the Gorkha community has been an integral part of Nagaland’s social fabric and commended its commitment to peace, harmony and progress. He said the values of discipline, sincerity and resilience upheld by the community have strengthened inter-community bonds in the state.
Emphasising Nagaland’s diversity and peaceful coexistence, the Governor said such civic receptions serve as important platforms to reinforce mutual respect and collective responsibility towards nation-building. He also acknowledged the role of the Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima in preserving cultural heritage, promoting social welfare and contributing to society.
The Governor called upon the younger generation to uphold the legacy of their elders by continuing to serve society with dedication and integrity.
He concluded by expressing appreciation to the organisers and wished for continued harmony, friendship and cooperation among all communities in the state.
Santu Thapa, President of Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima, spoke on the history, contributions and cultural heritage of the Gorkha community, while Narayan Bahadur delivered the vote of thanks.
The programme also featured a cultural dance presentation showcasing the rich traditions of the Gorkha community.
