Kohima, July 14 (MExN): The Gorkha/Nepali community of Kohima celebrated the 210th birth anniversary of Bhanu Bhakta Acharya organised by Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha Kohima (GSKSK) at GPPK Hall, Chandmari on July 13.

Gracing the occasion as the special guest, Additional Director of Sericulture Department, Nagaland, Sanjay Rai recollected the efforts of Acharya in popularizing Nepali language and bringing the different Nepali community together. He called upon all to follow Acharya and give the best in preservation of Nepali tradition and culture. He encouraged people to uphold the Nepali language by discouraging use of other languages at home or within the community so as to refine ourselves.

Advocate and Ex-Candidate of ULB election Kohima, Priyadarshani Rana graced the occasion as guest of honour and exhorted the gathering.

The occasion also witnessed by handing over of Sudha Das Academic Excellence Award 2024 for female Gorkha/Nepali student achiever. It went to Trishna Chettri of Vikesel’s Vision School Kohima for scoring 85.83% mark in HSLC exam 2024 under the aegis of Gorkha Students’ Union Kohima.

Nagaland Gorkha Association President, Robin Pradhan gave a brief on the award while the special guest handed over the cash award of Rs 50,000 with a plaque.

Chaired by GSKSK member Pritivika Jaishi, the programme had a welcome address by GSKSK secretary Binod Mothey, welcome song by students of summer camp besides poem recitation and cultural dance marked the occasion. GSKSK Literary Secretary Maya Gurung gave the vote of thanks.
