Medziphema, December 14 (MExN): ICAR- National Research Centre on Mithun and Indian Society of Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology held Silver Jubilee Convention and National Conference (VIBCON) on "Innovative Biotechnology Approaches for Improving Animal Health and Productivity” at ICAR-NRC on Mithun Medziphema on December 13. According to DIPR report, Governor of Nagaland P B Acharya who graced the occasion as the chief guest congratulated the institution for the silver jubilee convention. He pointed out that since Nagaland was bestowed with rich natural resources, great potentialities and universities, there is opportunity for promoting itself. He quoted the Prime Minister of India who stated that unless North East develops India cannot progress. He asked the gathering to retrospect on their achievement and contribution to the society further stating that giving academic knowledge should not be the end role of universities and research centres but rather, reaching research to the people according to the need and preference should be seen. He called upon universities and research centres to deliver what they can do, to empower the unpowered. Welcome address was delivered by Dr Abhijit Mitra, Organising Secretary and Director ICAR NRCM. Other highlights included brief report of the society by Prof A Thangavelu Secretary, ISVIB and Professor MVC Tanuvas, Chennai, address by DR RK Singh, President ISVIB and Director ICAR Bareilly. Guest of honour Prof Premjit Singh VC Imphal, VC Chennai DR C Balachandran also addressed the gathering.
