Gov initiates to strengthen BBBP Scheme in Nagaland

Governor appeal to civil societies, individuals and community leaders to strengthen the Scheme

DIMAPUR, JUNE 13 (MExN): Nagaland Governor PB Acharya on Monday launched the bank accounts for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme in Nagaland. BBBP Scheme is an initiative of the Prime Minister of India to address issues that affect women in the longer term and to reverse the trend of an adverse and declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR). The decline in CSR is an alarming indicator for women disempowerment.  

A press release from OSD to Governor said Acharya had a series of meeting with social organizations and various community leaders residing at Dimapur on June 11 & 12, 2016 and received a good response from all. A total of 133-girl child were sponsored by various organizations and an exclusive SBI bank account has been opened for this purpose.  

Those who want to sponsor one girl child for one year; an amount of Rs 2,500 is required to be deposited in the account opened for the purpose in the SBI Kohima, the Governor informed.  

The girls and the private schools will be identified and selected by a Committee formed for the purpose by the Governor. In this connection, the Governor has appealed to the civil societies, individuals and community leaders to come forward and strengthen the Scheme. 

He also appealed to strengthen residential facilities, school uniforms, books, transport etc for such identified girls. The sponsors will be kept informed about the progress of their sponsored child regularly.
