Kohima, April 20 (MExN): Athong Makury, a Naga Scholar and also the President of the Council for Naga Affairs from Myanmar called on Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya on April 20 at Raj Bhavan.
During his meeting with Governor, Athong thanked Government of India for taking constructive and positive initiatives for the welfare of International Border Area people. He requested the Governor to extend all help and assistance to develop infrastructure, road connectivity, schools/colleges, hospitals etc. for the benefit of people living in the border areas.
Athong also apprised the Governor about the need to develop trade route via Avankhu under Meluri sub-division which will facilitate more activities between Nagas living in Myanmar and Nagaland.
A press note stated that the Governor informed him that he has already taken initiative to establish hospital and schools under Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis in the border areas for the benefit of people living on both sides. “This will strengthen emotional and national integration at large. Governor also enquired about the well being of the Nagas living across the border,” the note added.
