Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi releasing a Special Cover on the ‘Naga Tree Tomato’ in Kohima on September 6.
KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 6 (MExN): Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi today released a Special Cover on the ‘Naga Tree Tomato,’ which is a Geographical Indication (GI) tagged product of Nagaland. The Special Cover was released at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima on September 6.
Special Covers are released by the Department of Posts to signify a significant event or highlight important products. The Department has released Covers on the 19 GI products of the North East. Two Special Covers on ‘Naga Mircha’ and ‘Chakhesang Shawl’ were released last month.
The Governor thanked the Department of Posts for their interest and initiatives and said that GI tagging not only helps in recognition of the product but brings enormous benefits in terms of economic gains to the producers.
He said that the North East is enormously rich in diversity of natural and man-made products. “Crafts of Nagaland catch the eyes of the people all around the world. Unfortunately there is very limited visibility of such products,” the Governor was reported as saying in a press release from his PRO. The Governor further urged the Nagaland State Government to identify the unique and special products of the State and push for their GI tagging.
Chief Postmaster General, North East Circle, Amitabh Kharkwal said that GI tag is important as it prevents unauthorised use of registered GI products. He added that the Special Cover will be put on display at the National Philatelic Museum in New Delhi.
Postmaster General, North East-II Region, Som Kamei pronounced the vote of thanks. Senior officers of the State Government, and staff of the Raj Bhavan and Department of Posts attended the event.
