Government assures on Naga Hospital issue

Dimapur October 7 (MExN): The State Government has constituted a Cabinet Sub-committee under the Chairmanship of Minister Dr Shurhozelie to consider and address the Kohima Naga Hospital issue pertaining to the progress of the ongoing work project, among others. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr TM Lotha in a letter responding to the KMK who had expressed concern at the progress of work at the Kohima Naga Hospital, has assured the Government’s equal sentiment that the work be completed at the earliest. “(The Government is) in fact extremely eager that this project should see the light of the day at the earliest possible” stated Dr TM Lotha’s letter. It admitted that with problems having surfaced in the project, the State Government had been actively considering all facets of the issue and had several rounds of consultations with all the concerned including the Advocate General, Nagaland to arrive at the solution that addresses all the complex factors involved.

The Minister also assured that since the project entailed several legal and financial ramifications, the State Government had been proceeding cautiously and was already in the process of finalizing the action to be taken in consultation with senior lawyers in the country to serve “notice for termination of the Contract” to Sir Edward Dunlop Hospitals Ltd. The letter also appealed to consider and appreciate the complexity of the issues at hand and assured that the Government “is seized of the matter” and was making every possible effort to arrive at an early resolution to the issue.
