Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change CM Chang informed the Floor of the House that the government is aware of the massive environment pollution taking place in the state of Nagaland specially in places where road construction are undergoing.
Replying this to MLA Imkong L Imchen, the minister said that under Section 5 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986 the Nagaland Pollution Control Board had given directions to the concerned departments/ agencies to reduce air pollution due to dust generated on the ongoing road construction works by sprinkling water from time to time to various agencies and departments involved in the road construction.
‘Nagaland has potential of producing more silk’
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who is also minister in charge of sericulture today stated that the total valuation of silk production in Nagaland stands at overall Rs. 3331, 64,000 during the year 2018-19 under various type of Silk/Cocoon as per the existing market rate.
Replying this to MLA Dr. Chumben Murry, the chief minister furnished details of quantity of silk product as; Mulberry Cocoon- 122 MT, Eri Cocoon- 600 MT, Muga Cocoon- 17.00 lakh and Tasar Cocoon 1.14 lakh.
On being asked whether Nagaland has the potential of producing more silk, the minister said that in view of the favorable agro-climatic and topographic condition in the state, all the four types of Silkworm are being practiced in all the districts of the state and has high potential for further development of Silk in the state.
The Minister said that the department contemplates to take up more developmental programmes in the coming year by availing central assistance.
