Martha R. Ritse, Commissioner & Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare, cuts the ribbon to inaugurate the Government Place of Safety in Pherima on March 21.

PHERIMA, MARCH 23 (MExN): The newly constructed Government Place of Safety building in Pherima was inaugurated on March 21 by Commissioner & Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare, Martha R. Ritse, who also serves as Mission Director of Mission Vatsalya, Nagaland. The event was attended by Social Welfare Department officials, Mission Vatsalya representatives, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Medziphema P. James Swu, village leaders, and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the inauguration, Ritse underscored the role of the Place of Safety in providing a structured and secure environment for juveniles requiring specialized care and rehabilitation. She urged the residents of Pherima to take pride in hosting Nagaland’s only facility of its kind and called on local leaders to safeguard the home’s staff, children, and land. She also emphasized the importance of treating the children with care to aid their reintegration into society and maintaining the premises to foster a conducive environment.
Short addresses were delivered by Tosheli Zhimomi, Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Member Secretary of Mission Vatsalya Nagaland, P. James Swu, and local village representatives. The event, chaired by Superintendent Pito Samuel Sumi, also featured a dedicatory prayer by Pastor Alokaho Sumi of Alato Baptist Church, with closing remarks by District Child Protection Officer Nikito Zhimomi.
