Dimapur March 9 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland, by way of privatizing has handed over Likimro Hydel Power station to a private power corporation NEC Energy Private Ltd., a Delhi-based private power corporation. The decision was arrived at by the government in a meeting held yesterday, highly-placed sources in the government informed.
According to the sources, on condition of anonymity, the Likimro Hydel Power Station had run into rough weather following shortage of manpower as well as receding water generation. Thereafter, the station stopped generation power and had lain idle since, not long before it was actually commissioned by the Government of Nagaland. According to the official, there were five private power corporations both from the state and outside, who had made bids to take over the maintenance and functioning of the ‘white elephant’. The power corporations which tendered bids for the takeover are Swamina International Power Limited, Kolkata (SIBLK), Nagaland Builders Limited Kohima,(NBL), KC Associates, Dimapur, NEC Energy Private Limited (NECEPL) and Sovika Technical and Services Private Limited (STSPL).
Taking into thorough account factors of costs, operations and returns the Government decided to hand it over to NEC Energy Private Limited which is currently based in Delhi as the central conduit for operations. “The Likimro Power Project could not function and stopped generation of electricity due to factors of manpower, technical (problems) and receding level of water feeding the central conduits. But the Government re-vamped it and decided to hand it over to a private party for operations. The new corporation will now take over the maintenance and operation of the power generation” the Government official said.
It was informed that the Nagaland government had after a series of thorough deliberations had about last year decided to revamp and re-equip deficient or non-functioning machineries for power generation to resume. After the entire machinery was revamped and necessary modification made, power generation began recently, he added. The sources also informed that the official handing over of the station would be done as soon as the formalities and necessary protocol modalities are fulfilled.
