Dimapur, October 29 (MExN): The state government must identify the cause of failure of various schemes and projects meant for self-employment. All of these schemes are politicized, the Educated Unemployed Union of Nagaland says.
Stating hat the government itself has a share in the alarming increase in unemployment and related problems, the EUUN wants a practical retrospection in the matter. “Certain departments are sponsoring various training programmes on value addition for forest and agro-based products” laments the EUUN through its president Achilo Thong, in a statement. Unnecessarily, exorbitant expenditures are incurred by the departments in concern dealing with self-employment of youths.
“…the beneficiaries are not able to utilize this technical know-how acquired from participating in such awareness programmes for commercial purposes. Because the training programmes are suddenly conducted just to give good impression to the public; perhaps each individual needs sufficient time to decide which trade they must learn for livelihood” the union observed. The union lamented that so far the government has no clear-cut policy to promote the welfare of the uneducated unemployed.
“IT is obvious that without formulating clear-cut policy, no unemployment or any other major problem can be solved; to a great extent the government is responsible for the alarming increase in unemployment and related problems” it asserted. It also reiterated its earlier demand to the government for setting up a self-employment training institute, a state self-employment board, departmental staff selection board, a state-level committee for formulation of clear-cut policy for the welfare of the educated unemployed and extension of the upper-age limit and retirement-age.
