Government’s apathy

• Sir-The recent NST Bus mishap near Longleng in which 9 passengers were killed and 17 others were gravely injured is the third fatal accident involving NST Bus, within the span of last two months. This clearly shows that the State Government and the NST Department is not concerned about the well being of the common man.

With the declaration of Longleng as a District, we expected at least some basic humanitarian developments to take place, e.g, improvement of road conditions, better medical facilities, Power accessibility and better connectivity with the outside world.
However, as of now, it is disheartening to see no sign of improvements in the above mentioned basic developments taking place at Longleng.

After upgrading Longleng into a District, it rather seems to have degenerated.

The vacuum of which is exposed particularly during such incidents.

On that very evening the injured passengers were at first rushed to the Civil Hospital Longleng, however, with no light power accessibility at Longleng, everybody faced a difficult time though somehow a generator was managed at a later stage, even after then, due to poor medical facilities many critically injured immediately left Longleng for Mokokchung, Jorhat and Dimapur for medical treatments.

In this connection, I express my sincere gratitude to all the local youths for their timely intervention by helping in the rescue operation and the Deputy Commissioner, S.P., Doctors and staff’s of Civil Hospital, Longleng and everyone for all the necessary assistance during the difficult period.

Further, I humbly appeal to the State Government to immediately grant relief measures and ex-gratia compensation to all the victims and also to make known to the general public, the findings of the inquiry Commission about the accident at the earliest.

I also convey my heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved families and pray for early recovery of the injured.
