Dimapur, November 4 (MExN): Governor of Nagaland, P B Acharya attended the first Gyan Kumbh, the two day National Conference for qualitative improvement of Higher Education, which was inaugurated by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on November 3 at Patanjali Vidyapeeth, Haridwar, Uttarakhand. It is jointly organised by the Higher Education Department of the Uttarakhand Government and the University of Patanjali.
On the occasion, Governor of Uttarakhand, Baby Rani Maurya; Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat; Higher Education Minister, Dr.Dhan Singh Rawat; Swami Ramdev; Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Dinesh Sharma along with Education Ministers of various states, vice-chancellors of Universities, educationalists and students attended the conference.
While addressing the gathering, President Kovind said that the objective of the Gyan Kumbh was to enhance the quality of education in India.
The President said that for qualitative education, teachers and educational institutions have an important role to play. Every child has some talent and to find and refine that is the work of the teachers and educational institutions. It must be ensured that no child is deprived of education because of poverty or any other reason. Along with knowledge, sowing the seeds of morals is also the duty of the teachers. But this work can be done only by those teachers who have commitment for self-sacrifice and are sensitive.
President Kovind also conveyed the need to educate the weaker section of the society.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said the event marked a "historic" day in the field of education. "In comparison to our country, some small nations are far ahead of us (in terms of education), we have to develop better education in our rural areas, only three per cent of the colleges offer PhD. Even after having many world-class offices, we cannot provide better education to our students," Rawat said.
Later in the afternoon Governor of Nagaland, P B Acharya who was the Special Guest for the technical session of the Gyan Kumbh, stressed on the need for skill addition in academic curriculum to make students coming out of universities employable. Education Ministers from various states including Manipur and Meghalaya spoke about quality improvement in Higher Education in the country.
