Governor confers O.N.E. India Award 2018

  Mumbai, November 28 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya gave away the ‘O.N.E. India Award 2018’ of My Home India to veteran social activist, Aribam Brajkumar Sharma as recognition for his contributions in the field of culture, education and tribal welfare in a function held at Mumbai on November 26.   Addressing the award ceremony as the Chief Guest, the Governor congratulated My Home India, a national NGO which aims at bringing emotional integration between people of rest parts of the country with the people of Northeast India, for organising such awards for the past 13 years to an outstanding achiever who has worked on sensitizing rest of India about North eastern states and to further bolster nationalist feeling all across North eastern states.   The Governor opined that people from all walks of life must be recognized by all organisations for their selfless and unique services to the society and the Nation. Such awards will encourage the dedicated and extraordinary individuals and also motivate many others to work towards sustaining cultural heritage, preservation of fragile environment and overall prosperity and empowerment of every section of the society and gender, he added.   Governor Acharya talked about the importance of development in the Namaste North East States for the overall development of the Nation. He stated that North East region has the potential to be at par with the rest of the Country and called on the people of the Nation to work towards achieving that goal. The importance of the 3 Es - Education, Electricity and Employment was especially stressed upon in order to develop the region. He stated that it was the responsibility of every Indian to work for betterment of the NE India. Governor Acharya opined that only when all the States were develop equitably, India will develop as a strong Nation.   The recipient, Brajkumar started his career as a lecturer in the Statistic department of DM College, Imphal from 1963 till 1996. He served the said college in the capacity of HoD and principal in-charge. He also initiated a movement called, ‘Nasha Bandhi’ throughout the State to control the menace of drug addiction and alcoholism amongst the Manipuri youth.   O.N.E. stands for ‘Our North East’. Hence “O.N.E. India” symbolizes twin meaning “We all Indians are ONE” and North East region and its people are our own with the words “Our North East”. Award carries cash prize of Rs One Lakh Rupees (INR 1, 00,000) and a memento, a press release from PRO to Governor informed.
