Governor greets on Raksha Bandhan; urges support for women reservation

Kohima, August 18 (MExN): Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya greeted the people of Nagaland on the occasion of “Raksha Bandhan” and has appealed for support to the 33% reservation for women “which is mandatory as per the Constitution”.  

“The Government has taken the right step in empowering women and giving them opportunity in every field of life including in the field of politics,” Acharya stated in a message.  

On the occasion, Governor Acharya also appealed to the people to stop discrimination manifested through gender biased sex selection, and post birth discrimination against girl child.

In this regard, Governor Acharya called on people to sponsor girl children under the Bati Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme (save daughter, educate daughter) to save and empower the girl child by sponsoring a girl who can be educated with Rs. 2,500 per year.
