
KOHIMA, AUGUST 7 (MExN): Nagaland Governor, Prof Jagdish Mukhi today extended Metemneo and Biam greetings to the Yimkhiung and Khiamniungan communities.
“I extend warm Metemneo greetings to all the people of Nagaland specially to my Yimkhiung brothers and sisters. During the celebrations, Yimkhiung seek blessings for bountiful crop- millet in particular. It is on this occasion people pray for the deceased souls and also for a good harvest. The five-day celebration has different significant rituals being performed each day. Traditional rituals of this festival reveal the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene,” the Governor stated.
On this auspicious occasion, he wished all good health, happiness and prosperity.
In a separate press release, the Governor extended warm Biam greetings to my Khiamniungan brothers and sisters and to the people of Nagaland.
“This beautiful festival is celebrated as a thanks giving to God for a bountiful harvest. Khiamniungans emphasize on the importance of food grain storage and consider empty granary a taboo. Traditional rituals performed during the festival reflect the harmonious coexistence of the community with the environment. I urge them specially the youths to imbibe and carry forward the cultural values of the festival,” the Governor stated.
On the occasion he wished all a safe and a joyous festival.
