Dimapur, January 14 (MExN): Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today led the state in extending greetings to the Chakhesang community on the occasion of Sükrünye Festival 2019.
Stating that Sükrünye was one of the most significant festivals of the Chakhesang’s, Acharya observed that such festivals give all the chance to sanctify and purify one’s heart and soul in the truest form.
The festival should be a source for building unity and called on all to come together and make the atmosphere conducive in towns and villages for peaceful co-existence and all round development in the State, Governor Acharya said.
“May the festival of Sükrünye bring peace, unity and prosperity to the Chakhesang’s in particular and Nagas in general,” the Governor added in his message released by PRO to Governor.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister took to twitter to extend his greetings.
“May the celebration not only bring peace, harmony and brotherhood among all sections of the people but also foster revival of positive age-old customs, practices and values,” Rio said in a tweet.
Zacilhü R Vadeo, Former Minister, Nagaland has extended Sükrünye greetings to all the Chakhesangs and the Naga Society which is considered the most significant premier festival for the Chakhesangs and Tonimai/Tinemi (Tünyemi) Community celebrated around January 15.
Vadeo in a press release stated that the Chokris had traditionally practiced Sükrü, a ritualistic purification of young innocent boys and girls with the killing and eating of unblemished cock and hen respectively. “Culture is the easiest emotional binding factor in a given society because culture itself is largesse of God,” he added.
On this occasion of purification, prosperity, good fortunes and merry-making, Vadeo appealed to all citizens of Nagaland to purify their hearts, seek for prosperity, good fortunes and happiness in every home “to give peace a chance in the blessed name of Jesus Christ.”
