
Zunheboto, November 21 (DIPR): Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya and his wife Kavita Acharya were on a two-day visit to Zunheboto on November 19 and 20. They were given a warm welcome at Town Hall here. Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan “unless North-East India develops, India will not progress,” he said, “Nagaland has immense potential to move forward with the available resources which are yet to be explored.” Acharya mentioned that talk between the Government of India (GOI) and NSCN (IM) is “on the right track which will bring peace and stability in the Naga society.” He also voiced out concern regarding the poor road condition and the problem of proxy teachers in government schools, which he said is responsible for poor academic results throughout the state. While lauding the Sumi tribe as a “heroic community,” Acharya recalled his association with late Dr. Hokishe Sema and said that Sumis are wonderful and talented people and encouraged them to preserve the good culture inherited from their forefathers. Later, Sumi Hoho and Sumi Kukami Hoho submitted a representation pertaining to various issues. The Governor also visited Mount Carmel Home at Sukhalu village and District Hospital, Zunheboto. At Mount Carmel Home, he interacted with the villagers and children of the home and donated Rs.20,000 to the children’s home and Rs. 20,000 to cultural troupes. At District Hospital, Acharya had an interaction with the doctors and staffs where he was updated on the status of the hospital. Medical Superintendent, Dr. Kheshito Zhimo also submitted a representation to the Governor for addressing various problems pertaining to the hospital. Later, a meeting with NGOs and HODs was held where Parliamentary Secretary, Soil and Water Conservation, Pukhayi Assumi and MLA G. Kaito Aye accompanied the Governor. On November 20, the Governor visited the District Jail and had an interaction with the jail inmates and encouraged them to live a purposeful and respectable life and contribute to the society later in life. The Governor also granted remission to four inmates, distributed blankets and donated Rs.7000 for procurement of handicraft items. The Governor also visited SBCZ, which is set to be the second largest church in Asia and interacted with the church officials. He also had a meeting with ex-servicemen, Red Cross, Bharat Scouts and Guides. Led by Commandant of 5th Assam Rifles, Sachit Suri, the Governor interacted with the jawans and families of 5th Assam Rifles. Throughout the tour, the Governor was accompanied by DC, T. Roy, SP, Rhetso, SDO (C), Shanavas, Addl. SP, Relo Aye, head of offices, Hoho leaders and other dignitaries.
