Governor puts PDS back on track; VIP quotas cancelled

Dimapur, February 13 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland had made improvement in the Public Distribution System (PDS) as one of the key focus areas during the President’s Rule in the State. Accordingly, directions were given to the Food & Civil Supplies Department and District Administration to ensure delivery of essential commodities to all the citizens of the State in the right quantity and at the right price, informed a press note from Abhishek Singh, IAS, Secretary to Governor.

It was informed that certain complaints had come with regard to VIP quotas in the allocations of essential commodities like K.Oil. This was viewed seriously by the Governor and directions were given to cancel all VIP quotas and ensure that K.Oil meant for the public are given to the public in the right quantity.

The total State allocation of K.Oil is 1425 KLs per month and the total number of household as per 2008 population is approximately 302663. Accordingly each household must get a monthly quota of 4.70 KLs of K.Oil at Government determined rates. As per this Food & Civil Supplies Department has revised the allocations and accordingly the quota of Mon District has become 155 KLs as against 90 KLs earlier. Similarly, quota for Tuensang district has become 130 KLs against 72 KLs earlier, for Longleng it is 72 KLs against 36 KLs earlier and for Kiphire it is 73 KLs against 67 Kls earlier.

This increase in allocation for the backward areas has been possible due to cancellation of all VIP quotas and each household in the State has been given a quota of 4.7 Ltrs K.Oil per month. Similarly, allocations for levy sugar and APL rice has also been made to ensure that all BPL families get around 2.75 Kgs of sugar per month and all APL card holders get around 13 Kgs of rice per month. Over and above these, BPL, AAY and Annapurna ration card holders will continue to get their quota of rice and other essential commodities. The Governor has also directed that Deputy Commissioners and other District Authorities must ensure that all commodities are properly distributed to all the beneficiaries without any diversion of any kind.
