Wokha, February 12 (MExN): “It is the prerogatives and the desire of the State Government to ensure that our young generations are not deprived of education,” stated Advisor for School Education, Government of Nagaland, KT Sukhalu during the upgradation of Government High School, Sungro to Government Higher Secondary School, Sungro under Wokha district on February 12.
While speaking on down gradation of some schools in the State, the Advisor said, “it is heartbreaking but we had no other option but to down grade it when school enrolment is bad and their results are very poor.” He reiterated that the government cannot deprive the young generations to a quality education, “instead the prerogative of the State Government and the Education Department is on imparting quality education and the school institutions in the state to become the centre of excellence.”
Sukhalu said that GHS Sungro has been upgraded based on its performance which has fulfilled the criteria of good enrolments and good results. He thanked the teachers and faculties members for their dedication and also the area people for their unflinching support in spite of facing many challenges and difficulties faced in its initial stage.
“To achieve the target is not the responsibility of the department alone, but it is equally important for the people of the State to extend full cooperation with the department,” he said and urged the people “to take keen interest to ensure that the school is run properly involving all stakeholders of the state.”
To the people of Sungro area, he urged to take strong responsibility to maintain the standard that the schools have been producing good academic results and to continue to give support and cooperation to ensure that this upgraded school to run properly for result oriented institution.
The advisor informed that the newly upgraded GHSS Sungro building will be completed by this year itself.
The guest of honour, Advisor for Horticulture & Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan while extending greetings stated that Sungro Range deserve to have a Government Higher Secondary School as it has remarkably achieved 61 glorious years of existence with “constantly good number of student’s enrolment and decent exam pass percentage.”
“This day is a momentous occasion for the people of Sungro range and a proud moment for 39 Sanis Assembly Constituency to have its first higher secondary school,” Yanthan said. He said that the area has large potentials to boost economy yet it remains under developed. He urged upon the Village Education Committee, village councils and range people to support the school to bring notable results and produce responsible citizens.
Director, School Education Nagaland, Wonthungo Tsopoe said that 16 schools have been upgraded by the State Government in 2021 under the close observation and interest of the State Chief Minister of Nagaland “with a vision to provide quality education to the young generation.”
Advisor Dr Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, Advisor Imnatiba and Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Orenthung Lotha also delivered short speeches. Among others, the programme was attended by MLA Kazheto Kenimi, Advisor Medo Yhokha, YM Humtsoe, NCS (Retd) and other host of dignitaries.
The dedication prayer for the foundation stone was offered by Rev O Yibomo Ngullie, Pastor Okotso Baptist Church.
