Dimapur, March 1 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) on Sunday observed that government colleges in the state continue to struggle with ‘pitiable infrastructure’.

As part of its education tour, the union stated that it visited Pfutsero Government College under Phek district, Public College of Commerce Dimapur, S.D.Jain Girls College Dimapur, St.John College Dimapur, Dimapur Government College, Pranabananda Women’s College Dimapur, Immanuel College Dimapur, and Mt. Mary College, Chümoukedima.

While welcoming the action of the state government and concerned district administration in carrying out land survey in the district colleges with land issue, the ANCSU reiterated its appeal that there has to be a proper boundary wall to protect the land of the colleges.

The union also visited the new site of Pfutsero Government College (PGC) and expressed appreciation towards the college and the department for having fenced the new site to protect any kind of encroachment in the future.

The union also added that it has conveyed its concern for timely completion of the construction of the new PGC Administrative/Academic block to the contractor.

ANCSU expressed discontentment over the slow progress of constructing the Science Block building and boys hostel at Dimapur Government College. The union strongly reiterated that basic college infrastructure like library, toilets and college bus should be made available to the colleges, which many of the government colleges are still lacking.

The union also stated that private colleges continue to contribute much to the academic growth of the state, while highlighting the importance of following the UGC guidelines and norms.

During the tour, ANCSU also heard the grievances of the students and the colleges and assured that those matters would be taken up with the concerned authority on priority.

The union also discussed scholarship, land issue, academic council, Nagaland University related matters etc with the students. It appealed to the students to not only “fight against what is wrong but also not to practice what is wrong.”

The visit was part of the second phase of its education tour and the union will be visiting the remaining colleges in the next phase, it informed. In the first phase, ANCSU visited colleges under Zunheboto and Mokokchung district.
