Govt de-registers Home for blind children

Dimapur, February 25 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland on Tuesday revoked and cancelled the registration of Naga Blind Children Home, Dimapur as a Child Care Institutions (CCI) under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. 


According to a press statement from Secretary and Commissioner to the Government of Nagaland, Department of Social Welfare and Chairman, Child Protection Services, the registration of Naga Blind Children Home, Ao Khel, Notun Bosti, Dimapur was revoked and cancelled in “cognizance of the gross violation and offences committed by the Director/Proprietor K Yapang Longkumer,” against children in his care. 


He is alleged to have abused physically, mentally and sexually, the persons with disabilities including minors residing in Naga Blind Children Home run by him, the statement read. A total of six boys and six girls were rescued from the home.


Meanwhile, Women Police Station, Dimapur, filed a suo moto FIR against the alleged accused and he was booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, it said. 


The office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Nagaland has also taken cognizance of the case, which is under trail in Special Court, Dimapur.
