Kohima, June 15 (MExN): A one-day programme on ‘basic courtesy’ was conducted for the Nagaland Government drivers on June 15 at Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Nagaland. Resource persons Er. Dzuvichutuo Khale, Assistant Engineer, Transport Department; Chiwase Nyusou, ASI, Traffic Cell, North Kohima; and Dr. Hovithal Sothu, Deputy Director, ATI dwelled on the topics ‘Basic driving ethics’, ‘Traffic rules and regulations’, and ‘Basic ethics at work’.
All the sessions were followed by discussions. According to a press release from Dr. Hovithal Sothu, many of the participants raised the issue of danger of overtaking by two wheelers and small vehicles from the wrong side, while some suggested that such trainings should also be given to taxi and private drivers too. Others suggested more mobile courts to be conducted both for the Government as well as private vehicles. Another major point of discussion was the issuing of Driving License to applicants without having proof of knowledge of driving, the release said. Traffic congestion was another point of long discussion.
In the valedictory function, Neivisietuo Rino, President, All Nagaland Government Drivers’ Association thanked the ATI for organizing the programme exclusively for the drivers and shared that all the participants learned many things they were not aware of in the past. He also shared the plight of the drivers on the issue of uniform, which according to him, was already committed before by the Government in principle, but has not been implemented till date. Another matter of concern for the drivers he expressed was that new posts of officers are being created, but new posts of drivers are not created. Hence, he pleaded on behalf of the drivers association to the Government to consider creating posts of drivers along with the creation of new posts of officers.
Altogether, 110 drivers from different departments and districts attended the programme.
