
Dimapur, February 16 (MExN): The office of the Account General (Audit), Kohima has informed the concerned government functionaries about the Accounts and Audit Regulation 2007 and in this regard an extract of the regulation was issued to the media pointing out that this was with the objective of strengthening “financial discipline”.
As per the regulation the Comptroller and Auditor General was authorised under the Act to inspect offices and to conduct audit in the offices “that attract his audit jurisdiction in connection with the performance of duties under the Act”. For this purpose, audit teams shall be deputed to the offices of the auditable entities from time to time, it was informed while adding that an inspecting officer shall lead such a team and that the team can also visit places where relevant records of the auditable entity are kept.
It shall also be the duty of the head of the office of the auditable entity to provide appropriate and reasonable office accommodation and other office amenities to the audit team for official use and at par with facilities available in the auditable entity. Further the heads of department shall supply to the audit office, a list of the offices under them at the end of December so as to reach the audit office before the end of January of the following year.
The extract of the Accounts and Audit Regulation 2007 also mentions about failure to provide data, information and documents; establishment of audit committees and their constitution; annual public statement regarding pending audit observations; immediate steps for remedial action on audit observations etc.
