Tuensang | August 13
The inaugural programme of Government Higher Secondary School Hakushang was held on August 13 with P Bashang Chang, Minister of Housing & Mechanical Engineering, Government of Nagaland, as the special guest.
In his address, Minister P. Bashang Chang described the occasion as a significant achievement in the shared commitment to advancing education in Tuensang. He extended his deepest appreciation to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for his unwavering support, which was instrumental in making this upgradation a reality. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Advisor for School Education, Kekhrie Yhome, for his dedication to enhancing the quality of education across Nagaland.
Minister Chang specifically praised the efforts of the Chang Wedoshi Setshang (CWS), led by President Pongso and his team, who had tirelessly advocated for the needs of students and the community. Their leadership and commitment were vital in bringing this project to fruition.
CWS President Pongso, provided a background on the upgradation process, noting that the issue of overcrowded admissions had been a growing concern since 2017. In 2022, CWS, with its own funding, constructed additional classrooms at GHSS Thangjam to accommodate the increasing number of students. However, this proved insufficient, prompting further advocacy that ultimately led to the successful upgradation of the school.
The School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) Chairperson, in her speech, highlighted the importance of the upgradation, which brought the school's enrolment to over 1,000 students. She also made a heartfelt appeal to Minister Chang, emphasizing the urgent need for additional teachers to meet the growing demands.
Deputy Commissioner, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa reflected on the challenges faced over the years, particularly the shortage of teachers, which she described as a pressing issue across the region. She commended the CWS and other stakeholders for their pivotal role in achieving this milestone.
Principal Imkongsenla Sangtam, in her vote of thanks, expressed deep appreciation to all those who contributed to the upgradation of the school. She acknowledged the collective efforts of the community, CWS, and the government, which made this day possible. She also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to further the institution's growth.
The program began with a dedication ceremony of the newly upgradedschool and unveiling of the monolith by Rev H Sangkap, Pastor of Tuensang Town Baptist Lashong. The event included a performance by the Class 11 students of GHSS Hakushang, who presented the song “Together We Rise,” conducted by Lirili Sangtam.
