Govt of Manipur solely responsible for prevailing crisis: ANSAM

Tahamzam, (Senapati), December 19 (MExN): The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) today said that the Government of Manipur is solely responsible for ongoing crisis in the state and the Nagas living in Manipur have lost “all faith in the incumbent government.”   “If there is anyone to be blamed for the prevailing crisis, then all fingers should point towards the State Government and no one else,” maintained ANSAM in a press statement issued through its Publicity Wing.   In this context, ANSAM said that a press statement by Kuki Students’ Organization, General Head Quarter (KSO-GHQ), accusing NSCN (IM) for the present crisis, was “unfortunate.”   A matured students’ organisation must act towards peaceful co-existence of all the communities, it added.   ANSAM further pointed out to the general public that the United Naga Council (UNC) represents the “collective aspirations” of the Nagas living in the state of Manipur.   Rejecting allegation that UNC “represents the interest of NSCN-IM,” ANSAM said, “Its (UNC) actions are in furtherance of the collective will of the Naga people to break free from the chains of the divisive and communal government of Manipur.”   It also implied that the present crisis had nothing do with the “protracted Indo-Naga political imbroglio which needs to be resolved through political dialogue between the Government of India and the Nagas.”   ANSAM further reasserted that the Nagas living in the present state of Manipur have lost “all faith in the incumbent government” and will not tolerate any force which tries to "derail the rightful assertion of the Nagas to be masters over their own land".

NEFIS appeals for peace and harmony

New Delhi, December (MExN): North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) today made an ardent appeal to all communities of Manipur to maintain “solidarity in the present situation of communal rift and harmoniously reconcile their differences through dialogue.”   There should be a mechanism of dialogue and consultations between different communities, stated a press note from NEFIS Convener Chinglen Khumukcham.   The move to create new districts should have been taken with the consent of all communities and the state should have consulted different groups before deciding on the issue, it further maintained.   Such an arbitrary move would only escalate the crisis and foster trust-deficit between different communities, it added.   NEFIS also condemned the role of Manipur Government for creating such a “situation where different communities found themselves at loggerheads with each other.”   The Forum will also organise a Candle-Light March on December 20 in New Delhi with participation from individuals and organizations from different North-East communities.
