Government Middle School Darogapathar celebrated its golden jubilee here at the school premise on Friday with deputy district education officer (DDEO) Dimapur, R Amongla Jamir, as chief guest.
After unveiling the jubilee monolith, the DDEO in her address congratulated the school management, teachers and teachers for achieving an important milestone and also for the recent upgradation of the Middle School to a High School.
Amongla said the students of the school are fortunate as they do not have to go in search of other schools after passing Class VIII since the school has been upgraded. She said there are many students studying in government schools who have to drop out after passing Class VIII due to absence of government-run high schools in their locality and their parents cannot afford to admit their children in private schools.
The DDEO also stressed on community participation to make the school vibrant and achieve the mission of imparting education to the students. With the school attaining maturity, Amongla urged the teachers to be more dedicated and sincere in their duties so that the school becomes a role model for other government schools. The DDEO also released the jubilee souvenir.
Chandrika Nath, the first head teacher of the school, who narrated a brief history of the school, said the school started with a humble beginning way back in 1967 with 10 students and two teachers. She also informed that till 1982, Assamese was the medium taught in the school.
Chairman, Darogapathar Village Council, Nungtok Jamir and others also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, SMC chairman, Rokovilie Chakhesang, delivered welcome address and head teacher, Kono Angami, proposed vote of thanks.
Other highlights of the celebration included jubilee song by the school choir, choreography and traditional fashion parade by the students.
