Govt orders halt to fee on livestock, poultry import

Kohima, March 12 (MExN): The Directorate of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services has directed all staff manning interstate Quarantine Check Posts (QCPs) in the state not to levy any fees from traders importing livestock and poultry.

The order was issued after the department took cognisance of allegations circulating on social media regarding fee collection at the check posts.

In an order issued from Kohima, Director of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Dr Imomanen Tzudir stated that all staff are “directed not to levy any fees of whatever manner from the traders importing livestock and poultry with immediate effect in compliance to the Government of Nagaland Notification NO.CON-I-G/41/2011 dated 19-05-2022.”

The order further informed that the fees collected for conducting tests using Rapid Testing Kits (RTK), under the provisions of the “Nagaland Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009 (Check Post and Quarantine Camp, Manner of Inspection, etc.) Rules, 2017,” have been kept in abeyance.

It added that the fee collection would remain suspended until a committee constituted by the department re-examines the operation and functioning of the Quarantine Check Posts to resolve the matter and formulate a suitable action plan.
