Government schools fared better than last year with an overall 47.40% qualifying the High School Leaving Certificate Examinations (HSLC) examination 2020 conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education. In 2019, the pass percentage was 43.32%. 


The May 30 results however, was dented as usual with 34 schools producing zero/nil result, out of which 30 were government schools. 


However, 13 government schools achieved 100% qualified/pass percentage. 83 private schools too secured similar results. 


Overall, government schools continue to remain below 50% pass percentage but it has also seen considerable improvement in the last four years increasing from as low as 32.81% in 2016. In 2017, the pass percentage stood at 42.60% but it dipped down to 40.77% in 2018, only to rise up to 43.32% in 2019. 


Notably, 7 students from 5 government schools- Phek Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Mayangnokcha GHSS Mokokchung, Dimapur GHSS, Dr Neilhouzhü Kire GHSS Seikhazou and GHSS Zunheboto, secured top spots in 7 subjects. 


District wise, out of the 13 schools with 100% pass percentage, 8 were in Mokokchung district, followed by 3 in Phek. Kohima and Tuensang had one each. 


In terms of overall district wise performance for government schools, Kohima district again topped the table with a percentage of 64% followed by Mokokchung and Peren districts at 57%. While Kiphire district improved its performance with 16%, Longleng district continued to remain at the bottom with a consistent 10%.
