Kohima, March 23 (DIPR): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio while admitting that there has been rampant encroachment of government acquired lands by individuals and private parties over the year said that encroachment has been aggravated by allotment orders issued by “unauthorized” officers.
Replying to a Cut Motion moved by the opposition Congress on Land Revenue department during discussions on Demand for Grants for the year 2006-07 in the assembly today Rio said that the encroachment had aggravated due to allotment orders issued by ‘unauthorized’ officers in various towns and sub-division headquarters. The Chief Minister informed the House that having realized the grave concerned over the issue the state Cabinet took a decision to impose total ban on allotment of government acquired land to any person. He said an order was also issued directing all the departments to obtain government ‘Pattas’. The Chief Minister said this will help prevent illegal encroachment within government acquired land.
Earlier some opposition members expressed serious concern over illegal encroachment government land and unauthorized allotment given to individuals. However with the satisfactory reply given by the government the cut motion was withdrawn.
In a related matter, to protect and preserve the Rangapahar Wildlife Sanctuary (Zoological Park) the Government has secured the areas through fencing, NAP personnel have been stationed and daily patrolling is carried out by the field staffs.
Replying to a starred question in the tenth session of the tenth Nagaland Legislative Assembly this morning, Minister for Forest, Kheto stated that regarding the encroachment at Intanki National Park, the decision of the Cabinet on April 18 1995 for carrying out survey and subsequent exchange of land between Forest Department and old and new Beisumpeikam villages were not in consonance with the norms, i.e. obtaining prior approval of Government of India. The Minister said that the matter is being examined.
