Govt taking serious note of student’s death: Manipur CM

Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh today said that the State Government is taking serious note of the death of Ningthoujam Babysana, the student of Standard Robert Higher Secondary School, and is committed to punish the culprits.

 

He said this at the Passing out Parade of the 5th Batch of MR/IRB/CP Followers (Male) held at Manipur Police Training College, Pangei on Wednesday.

 

The Chief Minister said that the investigating agency cannot provide the updates of the case to the public daily. The Chief Minister also said that he personally met the members of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) on several occasions. "The government had allowed performing the post-mortem twice with video coverage in the presence of the representatives of the JAC. The government has also written a letter to CBI to tackle the case so as to give justice to the family", he reminded.

 

Singh meanwhile announced that under the School Fagathansi mission, a total of 25 schools would be constructed amounting to Rs. 33.52 crores in the first phase. He said that the foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of these schools would be held on August 7 this year. He mentioned that one school will be constructed in each assembly constituency of Manipur. There are 60 assembly constituencies in Manipur.

 

He also claimed that every promise of the government has been fulfilled, adding that seven women markets of the hill districts will start functioning within August 15 this year. He maintained that rain water harvesting projects have been started in hill areas such as Churachandpur, Chandel, Tamei, Chingai etc.

 

The Chief Minister then mentioned that the present government is committed to deliver action oriented policies rather than giving rhetoric statements. He also stated that people have started appreciating the efforts of the police towards community policing. "There is a drastic behavioural change in the Police department in the last 2 years", he added. He further condemned the bomb blast at Thangmeiband area which occurred on Tuesday evening and asserted that the culprits will be punished.
