In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic which is a major topic of all discussions and media discourses, here is an exhibit of dedication, sincerity, love and concern of a teacher towards her students.
Avino Peseyie, Graduate Teacher of Chümuokedima Government Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima town had devised a plan to challenge and encourage her students of class 10 to excel in their studies. It bore fruit.
To encourage her social science students, she guided her students to aim for excellence and in the process instituted a personal cash award of Rs. 5,000 each to all securing a distinction in their matriculation exam.
With the results out, Peseyie gave Rs. 5000 to 16 of her students for securing distinction marks in social science. She further distributed Rs. 5000 each to two other students under her mentorship while incurring an expenditure of Rs. 90,000 from her own salary.
Her class did tremendously well in social science, with 16 out of her 30 students securing distinction.
Chümoukedima GHSS, under the leadership of Karen Sema, Principal, has developned an innovative academic system aimed to provide personal attention to all students for achieving academic excellence.
In this system, each teacher is mandatorily required to personally mentor 5 students throughout the academic year. Chümoukedima GHSS earned the distinction of being the best performing government school in Dimapur district in the recently concluded HSSLC examination (arts stream).
“It outperformed and surpassed many popular private schools in Dimapur despite the modest resources and infrastructure. Such testimony gives us hope that with sheer determination and sincerity, our government schools can compete and deliver quality education as any other top performing schools,” the DIPR report stated.
