Dimapur, July 31(MExN): The State Government, still reluctant to make any decided comments on the recent Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) fiasco but assuring it would “deliver justice to the people”, will be calling for a crucial meeting “very soon” to discuss the developments arising out of the alleged charges of malpractice.
“The government will deliver justice that is due to the people. The government will look into the matter” assured Khekiho Zhimomi, Industry & Commerce Minister. “The Government is not keeping silent” he maintained to the query why the government is refusing to make any pronouncements regarding the JEE debacle. The Minister, however, did not elaborate in what way, either inquiry/investigation or in redress, ‘justice would be delivered to the people’. He said that the government would very soon meet on the matter. Zhimomi further said that he had ‘communicated’ with IT & School Education Minister Imkong I Imchen but did not provide any details what they ‘communicated’ on. The Minister also informed he met with some student leaders in Kohima and assured them that ‘justice would be delivered’.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Lalhuma said that he would be summoning the Department of Information Technology & Technical Department within the next few days over the JEE issue. “These are just allegations for now. We will have to examine the matter and discuss it with the department” he said.
Meanwhile, one of the frontline Sumi students’ organizations, the Western Sumi Students Union has demanded that Minister Imchen resign from his post for what it said was infringing upon government norms in arbitrarily selecting seat for his son for a JEE MBBS course study which was not even merited. “The union demands that Mr Imkong L Imchen resign from his seat for infringing the government norms. The union appeals to the state governor and Chief Minister to immediately take action without further delay as justice delayed is justice denied” a statement from the WSSU through its president Shikahoto Zhimomi stated.
Also, the Sumi Laghilato Area has extended full support to the demand of the Highway Sumi Students Union, Dimapur that the two MBBS slots be given to two students who failed to make the merit-list and for which a merit JEE Candidate Niuto S Chishi was deprived of his seat .“We fully support the demand of the HSSU,” Er.KY Yekhushe Kiba, Chairman of SLA said. The HSSU had warned that National Highway 39, the main artery linking Nagaland to the rest of the country, would be blocked indefinitely in case the demands are not met.
