THE NEIPHIU Rio-led DAN Government has finally decided to dissolve the Sub-Committee for Peace to facilitate the formation of a Joint Legislators’ Committee for Peace which is likely to have a broader representation of all political parties including the main Opposition Congress. The decision to dissolve the said committee was part of the 4-point resolution adopted during the scheduled joint meeting of the Consultative Committee for Peace and the DAN Sub-Committee for Peace held today at the Chief Minister’s Residential Office.
“The meeting resolved to dissolve the DAN Sub-Committee for Peace to facilitate the formation of a Joint Legislators’ Committee for Peace”, stated a press communiqué issued by senior government official Banuo Z. Jamir, Principal Secretary (Home).
The meeting also resolved to appeal to the Government of India and the NSCN to extend the cease fire for a further period and to continue and to expedite the peace process to bring it to meaningful conclusion in fulfillment of the desire of the people.
The meeting resolved to place on record its deep appreciation to the Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly for convening a special meeting of the Legislators to discuss the peace process and to all the Legislators for positively participating in the discussion. It also placed on record its appreciation to the Churches, the NGOs and the Civil Societies for their active support in the peace process.
The joint meeting appealed to all section of the people, both under-grounds and the over-grounds, to desist from issuing provocative statements that may jeopardize peace efforts, but to extend their whole-hearted co-operation to bring about permanent solution to the long pending Naga Political issue.
