Govt urges peace as it works towards resolution to Dimapur-Peren land dispute

DIMAPUR, JULY 30 (MExN): The Nagaland State Government has appealed to the communities of both the districts of Peren and Dimapur, to maintain peace and tranquility with regard to the land dispute issue along the Dimapur-Peren boundary belt. 

 


A press communiqué from the Home Department, released through the DIPR, asked all parties to desist from taking any step which may aggravate the situation and lead to vitiation of peace. The State Government also appealed to the leaders of both the communities to put in every effort for ensuring that the environment of peace gets maintained at all cost, “as only then, the Government would be able to work towards a resolution of the dispute to the satisfaction of everyone.”

 


The government informed that there have been “longstanding claims and counter claims in areas along the Dimapur-Peren boundary belt between different communities. Such disputes have, at times, threatened to flare up which could lead to the possibility of breakdown of law and order.”

 


Principal Secretary, Home, Abhijit Sinha, IAS stated that the State Government has “always taken the matter with utmost seriousness and efforts have continued to be made to resolve the outstanding issues in an amicable manner so that peace, tranquility and understanding between the communities continue to prevail.” Accordingly, Sinha said that “continued measures have been undertaken and directions issued for maintenance of law and order from time to time.”
