One noble trait of the Nagas is unmistakably the respect for the elderly. This exemplary tradition is passed on from one generation to the other. While absorbing the wisdom of the grey haired gentlemen, sometimes situation arises where correction and further explanation are necessitated. The statement issued on 24th Feb. 2011 by a group of gentlemen representing Concerned Senior Citizen Forum Mokokchung is acknowledged however, with regard to the last point where they called for all factions to support the political negotiations between IM and GOI needs urgent clarification.
Mr. Bendangangshi, Prof. Lanu Ao, Mr. Temjenkaba and group appears to be neck-deep in the 13 year old negotiations between IM and GOI. Since their last point appealed to every section of Naga society to support the endless political negotiations between IM and GOI, it is also their duty to spell out clearly each and every point in the charter of demand submitted by IM to the GOI. As concerned senior citizens, it is their bounden duty to clearly explain to the Naga people, as early as possible, whether integration issue and alternative political arrangement for a section of Nagas are above Naga sovereignty. The so-called political negotiations continue to emit intolerable smoke for Nagas after each round. Only a man who is in precarious situation would appeal for support. Every single Naga knows for certain that Naga political struggle is unique in its own way. The situation is different from other neighboring nations. The seeds of Naga nationalism were sown nearly a hundred years back and not in 1993, 1997 or 2002 in Amsterdam. At this hour, appealing and working for Reconciliation among the Nagas will earn more applause for Mr. Bendangangshi and group rather than rallying support for Indian constitution bound travelers.
