Dimapur, February 18 (MExN): Special envoy to the collective leadership of the “GPRN/NSCN”, K Mulatonu on Thursday called for ‘broad-based people’s convention’ to bring about a solution to the Naga political problem.
Mulatonu said this to media persons on the sidelines of a meeting following the recent “reshuffle of the council of ministers” at the outfit’s designated camp at Khehoi. “We’ll go out to the people and ask them (people) what they want,” he said, to determine the future of the Nagas. To realise this, Mulatonu called for holding talks with NGOs and Naga civil society to further make way for possibilities of a ‘political convention of the people.’
A meeting of the “GPRN/NSCN” with western Sumi NGOs has been called on February 26 at Niuland. It will be followed by a series of meetings with all the indigenous communities of the state. No concrete dates have been fixed as yet on the later meetings.
The first assembly following the meeting at Niuland will be with the Zeliangrong and the Kuki communities, including the Dimasa Kachari. The second will be with the Chakhesang, Angami, Lothas, Ao and the Sumi communities. The fourth will be with the “eastern” Nagas.
Mulatonu said the “GPRN/NSCN” is inviting the opinion of the people to help bring about a solution to the Naga political issue. He said “political sovereignty is more important” than “integration”. Terming it as “a very small issue” he said it should be taken up only after the attainment of “sovereignty.”
