The GPRN/NSCN has reaffirmed the group’s commitment to unity and reconciliation of all Nagas, irrespective of political affiliation and without any pre-condition. “This is the only way towards our political destination. We must speak in unison and in one voice before God and the Naga people”, said GPRN/NSCN President Khole Konyak in his address as chief guest of the 6th “Unification Day” of the GPRN/NSCN here at Khehoi camp on the outskirts of Dimapur on Thursday,
Khole said Nagas have regrettably succumbed to the impractical politics of the day which has contaminated the very fabric of “our vibrant united Naga family.”
“To build a strong and vibrant Naga nation, the seed of peace and unity must be sowed in every heart. Factionalism has plucked away many precious lives and innocent lives”, the GPRN leader said.
The GPRN/NSCN President said what happened on November 22, 2007 (the first “Unification” move) at Hovishe village is not GPRN’s effort but happened because of the tireless efforts rendered by Naga frontal organizations to see the end of factionalism among Nagas.
“Our wounds were healed but the scars remained and for this Naga leaders needed to erase the past mistakes and usher in a new era of amity and reconciliation”, Khole said. He also said that the sovereign right of the Nagas has been strengthened by the signing of the Covenant of Reconciliation and the Naga Concordant. “This is a way towards our shared future”, he added.
While acknowledging the efforts of civil society, tribal organizations and Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) in the pursuit for unity and reconciliation among Nagas, Khole at the same time said that NGOs and civil society leaders urging revolutionary leaders to reconcile and unite must prove that they too can be trusted by all revolutionary groups.
To Government of India, the former “Naga Army” chief who has been in the Naga struggle for 58 years, said that six decades of Naga political struggle will not end with the solution granted to a section of Nagas inhabiting a particular area.
“We want our future generation to live in peace embracing their proud history and political right”, he said.
GPRN/NSCN General Secretary Kitovi Zhimomi also addressed the gathering.
Earlier, Khole also unfurled the Naga Flag. Leaders and representatives of various tribal leaders also spoke on the occasion and other highlights included cultural dance by Riju Cultural Club and special numbers presented by various individuals.
The programme started with invocation by Rev. Dr. Ponsing Konyak, Director, Medical Ministries International while MIP Kilonser Akato Chophy proposed vote of thanks.
A host of tribal and hoho leaders and representatives, student and youth leaders and leaders of other Non-Naga organizations attended the programme.
